According to foreign media Instant Digital, they have obtained the approximate battery capacities for the four models of the iPhone 17 series, detailed as follows:
- iPhone 17: ~3,600mAh
- iPhone 17 Air: ~2,800mAh
- iPhone 17 Pro: ~3,900mAh
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: ~5,000mAh
The battery capacity of the iPhone 17 standard model is similar to the previous generation, and since it uses the same mold, no changes are expected.
The iPhone 17 Pro has an increase of about 300mAh compared to the previous generation’s 3,582mAh.
The biggest change is in the flagship iPhone 17 Pro Max. Here’s a comparison of the battery capacities of flagship Pro Max models over the years, showing that this is the first time the battery capacity has reached 5,000mAh:
- iPhone 11 Pro Max: 3,969mAh
- iPhone 12 Pro Max: 3,687mAh
- iPhone 13 Pro Max: 4,352mAh
- iPhone 14 Pro Max: 4,323mAh
- iPhone 15 Pro Max: 4,422mAh
- iPhone 16 Pro Max: 4,676mAh
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: ~5,000mAh
Currently, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s battery capacity is lower than that of Android flagship phones, its low-power A18 Pro chip allows its battery life to compete closely with Android flagships. Therefore, with the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s larger battery capacity combined with the more energy-efficient A19 Pro chip, its battery life is expected to improve even further!
However, the increase in battery capacity also means an increase in the device’s thickness. According to supply chain sources, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have a thickness of 8.725mm, an increase of 0.5mm compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max, making it the thickest iPhone to date.
Among the four models, the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air naturally has the lowest battery capacity at around 2,800mAh. According to a previous Bloomberg report, internal Apple testing indicated that the iPhone 17 Air may not meet the demands of all-day heavy use, so an additional battery case will be sold as an accessory.
What does a 2,800mAh battery mean?
In fact, a few years ago, the iPhone X, iPhone XR, and iPhone 12 standard models were equipped with batteries around 2,800mAh. This comparison is somewhat surprising, as with the development of smartphones, consumers’ demand for battery life has grown significantly, and it’s easy to forget that smaller battery phones were once the norm.
As we enter July, just two months remain until we see the brand-new iPhone 17 series!
